Meh. Only thing to check with lasers is their over-heat speed. LVL 3 and ELM7 make it almost impossible to over-heat unless you're a massive screw up. Viziam and lvl 5 is mostly a no-overheat deal..
Shouldnt be that way. But damage side, it is fine.
Dude the skill does NOTHING. Even on lvl 5 it still overheats at the same time.
STD= overheats at 19 rounds left over
ADV=16 rounds left
PRO=12 left over
the skill does exactly nothing which annoys me. Another thing what bugs me is that the elm-7 has absolute no advantage over the standard laser except of the minimal overheat reduction. In my opinion the ELM-7 should have 2~2.5 more damage points compared to the standard. That would mean a damage of 17.5HP per hit with no heat up. Cause at the moment the damage pattern is like this:
STD=15HP
ADV=15HP
PRO=20HP
going from ADV to PRO is a huge jump in damage (33%) that is the same as to put 3 damage mods on a STD laser.
Not actually a Laser specialist so i'll take your word on that. I played laser a while on codex and saw that the skill wasnt working and the ELM7 pretty much never over-heated so i assumed it was fixed with chromosome. Guess not then...
Otherwise, agreed that the damage pattern is pretty odd.
Imo, the basic laser is probably a bit too powerfull. The viziam definitely is. But for both, it's probably due to the over-heat problems and not specifically the base damage.
I find odd that a basic laser with no skill can spill 81% of its clip before over-hitting. Imo, even at full skill, a weapon that has an over-heat system shouldnt be able to drop 100% of its clip without over-heating. Tbh, i have no idea how much a laser should be able to fire before OH at full skill but the current value seems way too high.
Worst thing CCP could do would be to change both damage and over-heat speed. Could make the gun useless. If it were up to me, i'd just make over-heating a bit more common, and put the ELM7 at a 17.5 base damage like you suggest. More over-heating means more player skill needed to use it properly. Wich is good.
